The Cost of Cheap Fans: Why Backward Curved Centrifugal Fans Saved My Project (and My Budget)

If you need a fan delivered fast, skip the axial model and order a backward curved centrifugal or plug fan — even if it costs more upfront.

When you can still use an axial or duct fan

Honestly, there are cases where they’re fine. Wall‑mount exhaust fans, general ventilation in low‑pressure systems, temporary cooling of a workshop — go ahead. And if you have zero budget and the pressure is low (<0.5 in. WG), an axial fan will move air. Just don’t assume it’ll work for a compressed air aftercooler vent or any duct with components.
